Alright I have a pile of genuine tree wood. Let's make something
So whats a tailgate without a beverage storage area? As stated before, our popup needs to well pop. So were adding in the extra items and designs to make this a popular destination of KSU fans. Anybody can bring a cooler to a tailgate but Owl B Tailgatin' has to take it to a whole new level.
I decided to try and design a portable bar that would hold a sufficient amount of everyone's favorite brew yet be small enough to store in the popup. Other criteria is easy to maneuver, durable and of course looks.
After searching the web, my own drawings/designs I decided on something close to a Murphy bar. Its fits the criteria and quite frankly makes use of the items I have laying around my garage. *Did I mention how I love to make stuff out of old pallets? The project actually turned out to be a lot of fun and of course I changed up my design several times.
One of the things that popped up was bottle protection. While the bar is stored and were traveling to games, the booze needs to be protected. No biggie. I threw in some wood dividers and added rubber traction pads to give the bottles something to rest and or bounce on when transported.
So took my time on this to make sure it meet our high quality controls. Hell who am I kidding, I just wanted it to look cool. Kind of mountain cabin design meets steam punk, meets saloon.
The drop down part I made all wood. After all, that is where the bottles would be place for the mixing of concoctions. The other side I went with aluminum siding. I really like the siding part. Gives it a funky old western style look, yet cuts down on the weight. You will notice at the top I left it open with a wooden dowel rod. This area will hold the whisky glasses. *And yes those with a sharp eye, that is a Jagermeister bar drip pad attached to the top. Upside down when bar is closed but upon being open it faces forward.
Again going for that kind of steam punk vibe so I added solid copper accents to the top, swing latches on each side, bronze bands to the front and just standard steel handles. Gave it two coats of golden oak stain and we now have a popup traveling bar.
I think it turned out pretty good. Will be adding chains to the side to keep the door from dropping and attaching brackets to the back so it will attach to the "previous" sink area in the popup. It will hold five to six bottles depending on size. In other words enough room for all of the important liquors.
