Its a little grey out here.
Well as stated we went with Monstaliner. Can't say enough about their customer service. I called them and let them know what I was dealing with. Their product is used mostly for truck beds, jeep tubs and so forth but they were more then willing to help me with this unusual project.
Zack their customer service rep advise me that due to the fiberglass nature of the top it would need to be primed first with a two-part epoxy. The metal sides would just need to be scuffed up. I ordered the epoxy from Monster so I knew I was getting a quality product and it kept me from dealing with unknowns from the big box stores.
The epoxy along with the Monstaliner color can be applied by gun or a special designed roll on brush. I admit I cheated with the primer. I used a 3in brush. I wanted to make sure the product got into every single nook and cranny. I applied two light coats and it came out really well. I got lucky and was able to do this on a nice day in the high sixty's. Being able to apply this outside is a real nice bonus. This stuff smells rough and if you had to do it indoors, it would suck. Of course pretty much anytime you paint you need to be in well ventilated area. This stuff just seemed to have a more intense odor.
In any case as you can see the primer did as intended and quite frankly looks pretty good. The old girl is already starting to look better.
